Best Free PDF Header and Footer Editor
Whether you're preparing corporate reports, filing legal contracts, or organizing academic papers, ensuring your documents are properly stamped is crucial. Our free PDF Header and Footer Editor allows you to insert contextual information, page numbers, and custom text into the margins of your files in seconds, directly inside your web browser.
Smart Tags and Page Numbering
Typing out page numbers manually is impossible for large documents. Our tool supports dynamic smart tags to make bulk document processing simple. You can use the following tags in any of the configuration fields:
{p}: Automatically inserts the current page number.{t}: Inserts the total page count of the document.{date}: Inserts today's local date.
Example: Typing Page {p} of {t} in the Bottom Center field will automatically stamp "Page 1 of 10", "Page 2 of 10", etc., across your entire document.
Why Use Our Tool?
Common Professional Use Cases
- Legal Professionals: Applying Bates numbering, case names, or "Confidential" watermarks to discovery documents.
- Students & Researchers: Adding their name, student ID, and standard APA/MLA page formatting to assignments before submission.
- Corporate Admin: Standardizing copyright footers, company names, and version tracking (e.g., "Draft v1.2") on internal memos.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Will adding a header overwrite my existing text?
The tool stamps the text at the absolute coordinates you define using the Margin setting. If your original PDF has very tight margins, the new text might overlap existing content. We recommend adjusting the "Edge Margin (px)" setting to ensure the stamp lands safely in the white space.
Can I change the font style?
Currently, to ensure maximum compatibility and processing speed across all devices without needing to embed large font files, the tool utilizes the standard PDF Helvetica font.
